DescriptionOil painting on engraved decorative wooden plate by Henry Sugimoto. Facing the viewer, an older woman is seated staring at a man seated across from her. She has white hair that is gathered in a bun and is wearing a white collared shirt with a blue cardigan and black skirt. She is holding a senninbari, or thousand stitch cloth belt, in her lap. The man's back is facing the viewer and he holding a Western Union telegram. They are in their barracks and behind them is a yellow flower in a vase and on the right, there is a small table and with a greenish-orange coffeepot. There are various things hanging on the wall, including a fringed wall hanging with an American flag, a shelf with framed photos of a solder and two pans. On the right, there is a window with blue curtain. Out of the window is a building with a sign, "Mess Hall". On verso, engraved in the center: "My Son Hurt" Jerome Camp| By Henry Sugimoto New York 1982. Painting is similar to Sugimoto's print "My Son Hurt in Action" (2015.2.82).
