Skip to main contentUnder its Terms of Service, the Japanese American National Museum ('JANM') grants permission to use text, documents, graphics, artwork, photographs, music, audiovisual, film, and other content owned by JANM and made available on a low-resolution basis on JANM’s websites, but solely for personal and non-commercial purposes or research or education (not including educational materials packaged, prepared, or sold on a for-profit or commercial basis).
JANM Collections Policy
To request high-resolution copies of content or to obtain permission to use items on a commercial basis, please contact JANM at collections@janm.org. JANM Collections provides high-resolution images of objects in its collections for research, educational, artistic, cultural, scientific, and commercial purposes (including, but not limited to, public exhibition, publishing, documentary films or videos, motion pictures, educational materials packaged, prepared, or sold on a for-profit or commercial basis, advertising, and online and digital content such as social media).
Please note that JANM owns the physical objects and images in its collections but may not own the copyright, moral rights, trademark, publicity rights, and other intellectual property and proprietary rights in items that you request. It is the responsibility of the requester to research and to determine whether any such intellectual property and proprietary rights subsist in the object sought and to obtain all licenses and permissions necessary for the intended use.
Requests are reviewed and permission is granted on a case-by-case basis. JANM Collections will provide electronic copies of images following the approval of a request, the completion of any applicable forms, and the payment of fees, if any.
Crediting and Citing the Japanese American National Museum
Requester must not delete or in any manner alter any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property or proprietary rights notices appearing on images. In addition, JANM asks requesters to provide appropriate credit when quoting or reproducing items in JANM’s collections. For more information, see citation guidelines.
