Chicago 14 Ill
Dear Mollie,
Surprised?? Yes, it's me, Violet, in Chicago. That's why I couldn't send you a Xmas card. I packed my address book in freight, which is coming today, but I received your card with address on it, so here I am writing to you.
I've been in Chicago for two and a half weeks and I'm just getting acquainted with the city. This place makes L.A. look sick and small, but of course give me good 'ol L.A. any day. Chicago is a very dirty city. The buildings are all dirty and black not like L.A. Papers fly all around the streets.
Mollie, I hope you had a very Merry Xmas and a very Happy New Year.
You know, Junko Yoshigai, well she's here too and she's staying only (a) building away from me. She rents one room, and she's here, in Chicago, all by herself. Her mother & father & sister are still in Camp, they plan to come out in the Spring. Do you know a girl by the name of Kazuko Masuda? She went to Roosevelt Hi. She's here too and I know you know Suzie Hatorii. Well she's here too. She changed her name to Susan Torii, and Kazuko changed hers to Bonnie. Yes everyone is changing their names.
Mollie! Don't study too hard. Man, you're good in Japanese. How do you like it?
Well, Mollie, my new address is:
908 W. Fullerton Ave.
Chicago 14. Illinois
When you find a little time please drop me a few lines, so until I hear from you I always remain -
Always
Violet.
(Christmas card)
" "The merry chiming of each
Christmas bell
Sends out a welcome message -
'All is well!' ""

Dear Mollie, (flee)
"Merry Christmas
and the
Happiest
New Year
ever."
Sincerely,
Violet
