DescriptionScroll depicting Shinran Shonin (1173-1262), founder of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism to be hung in right altar of butsudan. The elderly bald priest is dressed in black robes and white neckline and seated on a purple, green, blue and orange material over a yellow and green dias while holding a single strand of brown onenju (thought beads). The image is 12 x 5.5 in. with a thin blue border and is mounted on a 15.25 x 6.375 in. matting of red wisteria (Fuji) and paulownia (Kiri) crests on pink designs with a thin yellow border. The backing is a navy brocade with phoenix pattern measuring 26.625 x 9.5 in. ; metal rods at either end, 10.5 in. long with .75 diameter ; metal clasps with purple cord to hang ; pink and red strips hang from top.;1 scroll : col. ; 26.625 x 9.5 in. with metal rod 10.5 in.
