Description1 scroll : col. ; 26.375 x 9.75 in. with metal rod 10.625 in.; Scroll depicting Shaku Rennyo (1415-1499), 8th abbot of sect and considered second founder or restorer of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, to be hung in left altar of butsudan. The bald priest is dressed in brown robes and with yellow monk apron and seated on green and white dias with wheel design while holding a fan or sutras in right hand and brown and white beads in left. The image is 12 x 5.375 in. with a thin blue border and is mounted on a 15.375 x 6.25 in. matting of red wisteria (Fuji) and paulownia (Kiri) crests on pink designs with a thin yellow border. The backing is a navy brocade with phoenix pattern measuring 26.375 x 9.75 in. ; metal rods at either end, 10.625 in. long with .75 diameter ; metal clasps with purple cord to hang ; pink and red strips hang from top.
