Description1 scroll : col. ; 24.25 x 10 in. mounted on wood frame.;Scroll with words "Namu Amida Butsu" written in black Japanese characters, meaning "I take refuge in Amida Buddha" in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism. It is the Gohonzon, the principal object of reverence, and is to be hung in central altar of butsudan. The sutra is written in black ink in Japanese on vertical 11.5 x 4.625 in. off-white cloth with thin gold border glued onto 13.5 x 5.25 in. orange-red matting of gold wisteria (Fuji) and paulownia (Kiri) crests with a thin white border. The .5 in. thick support is a navy brocade with gray metallic pattern measuring 24.25 x 10 in. mounted on a newspaper covered wooden frame with silver and tan patterned paper on back. Tan and blue cord tied to metal hooks at top.
