Description2 Photographic negatives : b&w ; one negative is the size of a 4x5, possible edge cut. One negative is the size of 1.25 x 1.5. Both depict the same wooden desk. At the bottom of the 1.25x1.5 the word “memento” is written in Japanese.
6 Photographic 8x10 negatives : b&w ; Photographed on Agfa Safety Film. All images depict graduation ceremonies of the French American sewing school between the years 1935 and 1941. Each photo consists of a large group of young women standing in rows on a stage, each holding a rolled up piece of paper with the principal sitting in the front of the group. At the bottom of each negative the date and the number of the graduating class are written. The first negative has a small rectangular piece that has been cut out of the bottom right corner.
6 glassine envelopes that the negatives were stored in. The first reads, “ No. Sept 15/35 / Name French American.” The second envelope reads, “No. Apr 11 1937 / French American Sewing School / Remarks 5 8x10 B.W. @1.00 / Retouched 21.” On the right side of the envelope is handwritten Japanese. The third envelope reads, “No. Apr 11 1937 / French American Sewing School / Remarks 30 8x10 B.W. @1.00 / Retouched 3.” On the right side of the envelope is handwritten Japanese. The fourth envelope reads, “No. May 8 - 1938 / Name French American Sewing School.” The fifth envelope reads, “No. 3/23/41 / Name French American Sewing School / Remarks 29 / Retouched 2 / Order Finished 1 / 2 16x20 -” The sixth envelope reads, “No. 8/12/39 / Name French American Sewing School / Retouched 36 8x10 Velvet #2? / Order Finished 1 16x20 10/4/39.”
