DescriptionEsther Takei Nishio was the first Japanese American student to return to the West Coast after Executive Order 9066 and the forced removal of Japanese Americans to concentration camps in the interior United States during World War II. She enrolled at Pasadena Junior College (currently Pasadena Community College), California despite public protest in 1944. These documents are a draft of Esther's testimony before the Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians; draft consists of editorial markings and handwritten notes.

In the testimonial, Nishio writes about the forced removal, the journey to Granada Concentration Camp, Hugh Anderson, the Friends of the American Way, the racial tension she experienced because of the protests and newspaper articles, and the return of Japanese-Americans to the west coast.
