DescriptionBlack and white home movie footage of Japanese Americans leaving Guadalupe, California, filmed by Franklin Johnson in April, 1942. Franklin Johnson was the Superintendent of the Guadalupe School District. The footage shows Japanese Americans assembling at the site of their forced removal, soldiers patrolling the streets, buses and luggage, and buses departing from Guadalupe.

:31 – Black/grey/white filmstrip and leader.
:45 – Japanese American (JA) man, woman, and baby standing on front walkway with small purses and suitcases at their feet.
:50 – Camera operator is now somewhat “on the move,” slightly shaky. Views down a street with JA men and women in coats standing along a sidewalk (on the same side as the camera operator), walking across a street, or milling around.
1:00 – Operator has moved positions; views across the street at a crowd of JA people with hand luggage. Camera pans slowly down the street to show scope of people waiting along the sidewalk. (US soldier standing with rifle on shoulder is visible at 1:07.)
1:18 – Group of soldiers, some with rifles, near trucks with crates and bagged luggage across the street from the camera operator.
1:23 – JA people cross the street carrying luggage, away from the camera operator. Scene breaks occasionally to pan across different JA groups waiting on the opposite sidewalk.
2:04 – Group of soldiers marching up the street with rifles, past JAs waiting on the sidewalk.
