Description1 b&w image of large group of school children, mostly girls, taken at Jerome camp. 1 man and 1 woman are standing at the ends of the row. Taken outdoors in front of a barrack, group is identified as the Baton Corp. For a certain age group, baton was extremely popular. The batons were ordered from a catalog. Quaker Oatmeal cannisters were used to fashion the high crowned box hats used by marching bands. The mess hall s saved the cannisters for the groups. Children in the back row are wearing some of these hats, and very front row has a line of hats laid out in front. Madeleine Sugimoto is part of this large group portrait.
