A man, Sugimoto, sits on a stool turned three quarters away from the viewer, looking over his left shoulder at the viewer as he holds a palette with palette cup in his left hand on his knee and a paint brush in his right hand above the image of Grant's Tomb. He wears a brown sweater over a blue shirt, navy pants, navy beret and glasses. A brown dog in red collar lays at his feet with its back to the viewer in the lower left corner. Two blue doves stand next to his stool, center foreground. Lower right, a man in orange with blue pants and cap sits reading a white paper on green banks of the East River which is spanned by Brooklyn Bridge.
