DescriptionPortrait of Maui County Fair entertainers from West Maui, Hawaii, October 10, 1933. Twenty-eight people are arranged in three rows, plus one little boy leans against woman sitting front right. All in costume, except little boy. One man sits in first row, center, holding a sanshin (Okinawa shamisen) flanked by women (two hold sanshin) and girls. One man in suit sits in second row, far left, next to young women in kimonos, most with hatchimaki. Young men in kimono and hats or hachimaki stand in back row. One man stands at left leaning against the head of Shishi mai costume next to a stack of paranku drums.
