Description1 photographic print: b&w ; Japanese delegation disembarking to meet the American surrender delegation on the airplane tarmac. The tail number of aircraft has serial number 49045. [They are greeted by Major General Charles A. Willoughby, General MacArthur’s wartime director of intelligence (In forefront). The peace envoys were met by General Richard Sutherland, who headed General MacArthur’s official party. Colonel Vachel Whatley, Colonel Frank Landers, Colonel Sidney Mashbir, Lieutenant Commander Bartlett, Major Anderton, Major Caiger, Major Shelton, and two officers of Japanese ancestry, Lt. Thomas T. Imada from Honolulu, Hawaii, and Lt. George K. Kayano of San Francisco, California composed the rest of the party.]
