Both drawings have double lined border and Japanese identification.
Left drawing depicts Takuji Shindo, druggist of Hilo, Hawaii originally from Shinki, Kawakami village, Kamo district, Hiroshima prefecture, Japan. Dressed in an undershirt, Shindo looks directly at viewer. He has a crewcut and a slight double chin. His face is lined.
Right drawing depicts Kishin Yamakawa, a Japanese language school teacher from Hilo, Hawaii originally from Nakijin village, Gami district, Okinawa prefecture, Japan. Yamakawa are downcast looking to bottom left. He wears a button-down shirt with pocket.
